Demonstration and sit-ins of INTUC along with all Central Trade Unions were held at Rani Rasmoni Road in Kolkata today to demand the account details of funds allocated in the Social Security Scheme for millions of Bidi Workers in the State. Later, the demand was submitted to the Hon’ble Governor through the State Labour Department.
State INTUC President Md Qamruzzaman Qamar was present as the keynote speaker at the meeting. He slammed the BJP at the Center and the Trinamool Congress in the state for their policy of killing workers and highlighted the collusion between the two governments.
Mrinalkanti Basu, the veteran INTUC leader, led today’s programme on behalf of the West Bengal Branch of the Indian National Bidi Workers Federation (INTUC).
700-800 Bidi Workers of INTUC approved Bidi Unions from different districts including Birbhum, Murshidabad, Balurghat, 24 Parganas, Medinipur, Malda joined today’s programme.
Other prominent INTUC leaders included Smt. Sagarika Das, Promod Pandey, Shyamal Saha, Ali Reza, Bidyut Karan, Gopinath Naiya, Sunil Singh, Manoj Singh, Shital Jha, Jogendra Mishra, Joydev Mandal, Sher Ali were present in the meeting.
