General Council Meeting of INTUC West Bengal Branch was held at Rajendra Prasad Singh Manch (State Youth Centre), Moulali, Kolkata -700014 on 4th September, 2022 at 10 AM under the Presidentship of Md Qamruzzaman Qamar. Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh, National General Secretary of INTUC inaugurated the Meeting by hoisting INTUC flag. In presence of Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh, Shri C. P. Singh, Shri Rakeshwar Pandey, Shri R. D. Chandrashekhar the meeting was started by lightning the Lamp. Mr. Qamar, President INTUC-WB Br. welcomed the guests, outgoing office bearers of State INTUC, District Presidents and Members of General Council along with Delegates from industrial units and informal sectors.
In his welcome speech Mr. Qamar attacked the anti people policies adopted by the Central Government led by Shri Narendra Modi and State Government for it’s authoritarian attitude and undemocratic style of functioning. He urged upon the Central & State Governments to stop disinvestment of Central Public Sector units. He described both the Governments as Governments of tall promises and directionless.
Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh, National General Secretary of INTUC questioned the intention of Modi Government for bringing 4 labour codes without consulting the major Trade Unions. He also criticised the labour & farmer’s policy adopted by Modi Government.
Mr. C. P. Singh, National Vice President of INTUC vehemently criticised the Central Government for selling the national assets. He further called upon the leaders of West Bengal to work unitedly and told the house that Mr. Qamar is the nominee of Dr. G. Sanjeeva Reddy Ji and he appreciated the functioning of Bengal INTUC under Mr. Qamar. Shri Rakeshwar Pandey, President of Jharkhand INTUC highlighted the role of INTUC and it’s efforts to provide all possible protective measures to workers working both in formal & informal sectors. He appreciated the tall leadership of Reddy Ji and told the house that under the leadership of Reddy Ji INTUC has become the largest free Trade Union of Asia & the World commanding the membership of more than 3.5 crores. Mr. R. D. Chandrashekhar, National Secretary of INTUC spoken high of INTUC leadership in West Bengal and he called upon the leaders to work unitedly under the leadership of Mr. Qamar. Ajitesh Pandey assured the house to work unitedly.
The Resolutions were moved by Shri Chandi Banerjee, Ganesh Sarkar, Master Nijam, Dibyendu Mitra, Moni Darnal and other INTUC leaders and after protracted discussion the following Resolutions were adopted…
1) The name of Mr. M. Q. Qamar was proposed by Mr. Dibyendu Mitra (Election Officer) for the post of President of INTUC West Bengal Branch and the General Council Members along with Delegates and entire house elected Mr. Qamar as the President of Bengal INTUC unanimously. Mr. Qamar was also authorised to constitute the Working Committee of Bengal INTUC.
2) Mr. Ashish Kundu, Treasurer placed the income & expenditure account for the year 2021 which was unanimously adopted. The General Secretary report was also passed by the house without any objection.
3) It was resolved to oppose privatisation of PSUs and 4 labour codes.
4) It was resolved that workers working in informal sectors shall be organised under the banner of INTUC.
5) It was resolved that State Branches of different industrial workers federation would be rejuvenated and District Presidents would bring the workers in informal sector under the banner of INTUC.
6) It was resolved that State INTUC would extend all cooperation and help to make forthcoming Plenary Session of INTUC a grand success and further adopted that it would make formal request to Dr. G. Sanjeeva Reddy Ji, Ex-MP to continue as President of INTUC.
7) The pension should be Rs. 10, 000/- per month without any unreasonable delay.
In his vote of thanks speech Mr. Qamar extended thanks & gratitude to all office bearers, Members of General Council and Delegates. He has also extended gratitude to Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh ji for his participation and his advice to State INTUC.
The meeting was concluded with thanks to the chair and members present in the house.
