The role of INTUC is gaining more challenge in the present globalized and liberalized economy as the gap between the rich and poor is widening and there has been acute under-development of the working class. Widening gaps between the working class and the industrialist ventures is a threat to the democracy. The Trade Unions have been and shall continue to be the significant institutions of civil society in the 21st century and reliable instruments to promote social justice in the society. In the special meeting of the General Council of the INTUC meeting consisting of the top leaders of the Trade Union movement of the country covering different trades and industries as well as the various States and territories of India, met in Mangalore on 24-25 September, 2000 and held discussion on the economic and social situation of the country. That today’s globalization- opening up of national borders to trade, capital and information is driven mainly by market forces resulting in opportunities and rewards to spread unequally and inequitably, concentrating power and wealth in a select group of people, nations and corporations – marginalizing others.
The INTUC fully endorses the ICFTU’s statements on strategies to deal with MNCs and accepts that the starting point should be to strengthen the link between the Unions who share the same employer. The need is to make full use of information technologies to exchange information and ideas on systematic basis and improving the effectiveness of international company councils For the effectively early realization of the aims and goals set out in the Narora Declaration, the Working Committee resolves to make the INTUC more powerful and effective instrument of social justice and the vanguard of the forces of freedom, democracy and progress.

Thus, INTUC’s primary focus agenda will be :
-Workers participation in Equity and Management;
-Education Research and Training;
-Health Services;
-Social Security;
-Employment creation
